*note This was written in 2020, I kept this posted for historical perspective.
We are all dealing with it, the year that is 2020.
While I haven't addressed it as of yet, it is a reality of the world we are living in today. As my northwest friends and family are plunged into the second episode of "Lockdown 2020", I figured I'd chat a bit about this reality.
Lockdowns, quarantine, job loss, school closures, business closures, product shortages, working from home, zoom meetings for school classes, graduations and performances canceled, mask mandates, hand sanitizer and washing focus, economic downturn...it has been quite a year.
Here in November it looks like we are taking on round two. We are weary.
Does the news hit your ears like an unwelcome lightning strike?
Can we trudge through yet another season of doom?
Yes we can.
Use your own history and talk yourself through this!
I know I would change some things my family and I did, "if I ever have to lockdown again". Well here we are a second chance to do it differently!
If the lockdown days brought you closer as a family, and you enjoyed the time together, here is your chance to do it again!
Are your finances battered to an unrecognizable disaster, from job loss or income decline?
Or did you come out of round one unscathed or even ahead due to crazy demand of whatever it is you and your family does for income?
This time around, one suggestion I would make would be to reach out, and connect with others in your community or circle of acquaintances. Whether that is online, or in person, or through the mail. Connect.
If you have a need, let it be known, if you have an abundance let people know!
Did you learn to make masks? Everyone will be needing fresh ones! Donate or sell them.
Did you end up with WAY too much hand sanitizer, or other scarcities? Again donate or sell at a discount to help your neighbors.
Did you get a bulk of a dinner item that you discovered your family isn't fond of? How about letting your people know, it may be a blessing to someone wondering how they will eat tonight.
Are you immuno strong? Already been through the virus and have some immunity built up? Offer to drop off groceries for your neighbor.
If you know of a mom with young kids, help with entertainment and distraction. Set up a "drive around scavenger hunt", or mail coloring pages, letters or puzzles to give that momma a second to brush her teeth!
Reaching out and serving others is therapeutic and helps to take your focus off of your junk for a moment. This is true in all seasons, but especially today and especially in 2020!
Organize a parade with fellow community members. How about a car club drive by? Cosplay character driveway visit.
Help.
Reach out.
The need is great, and not always easy to see.
Nobody wants to be a burden, but everyone is struggling and everyone is weary.
Please add new ideas in the comments, of help you have given or received to make Lockdown #1 better, or your plans to make lockdown #2 a better experience.
Stay safe and stay strong friends.
